NOVGOROD THE GREAT, June 7 (RIA Novosti's Andrey Letyagin) - On the suggestion from the director Henri Loyrette, the Louvre plans to open in 2008 an exhibition of ancient Russian artworks under the title "Holy Russia". Such is a press-service report from the Mayor's office of Novgorod the Great, located 450 kilometers to the north-west of Moscow.

The Paris show is expected to exhibit rarities from the collections of Russia's leading museums, including the Tretyakov picture gallery (with the most ample stock of Russian painting, Moscow), the State History Museum (Moscow), the Hermitage (one of the world's largest history and art museums, St.Petersburg) and the Novgorod state museum-estate.

The invitation to take part in the exhibition was delivered to the Novgorod museum by the Louvre's head custodian Jannic Durand who visited Novgorod the Great to observe its relics.

"For Novgorod, it will be the first experience of cooperating with French museums," noted the press-center.
