Russia's Baltic fleet warships in Baltops-2005 wargame

KALININGRAD, June 7 (RIA Novosti-North West's Anatoli Nilov) - Ships of the Russian Baltic fleet act out combat training operations in the naval exercise Baltops-2005, RIA Novosti learnt on Monday from the fleet's press service.

"The Nastoichivy destroyer and the Kaliningrad big landing vessel are acting out a set of combat-training and search-and-rescue operations. Tactical episodes in performing antisubmarine and antiaircraft missions are guided from the Nastoivivy. A trespasser ship will be inspected in an operation to follow the UN embargo," the press service said.

"The program of the marine exercise includes artillery firing at air and waterborne targets, communication drills, search and giving help to ships in distress," said the press service.

"The Nastoichivy will acts out joint actions with the American guided missile cruiser Anzino. After the exercise, a critique will be held in the German port of Kiel and the ships will participate in the traditional Kiel week festivities," the press service of the Baltic fleet said.

The annual international naval exercise Baltops is this year held for the 33rd time in Baltic sea. The Russian Baltic fleet takes part in it for the twelfth time. About 40 ships and over 20 aircraft of the Baltic and Northern Sea states, as well as the United States, are involved.
