"The instigation to color revolutions on the post-Soviet space which aims at suppressing Russia should not be Georgia's geopolitical function. This country should, above all, settle its conflicts with Abkhazia and South Ossetia [self-proclaimed republics in Georgia] and become a stabilizing factor in the Caucasus together with Russia," Batiashvili said at a RIA Novosti press conference.
According to him, the Georgian-Ossetian and Georgian-Abkhaz conflicts are results of the Georgian-Russian conflict, therefore, Georgia should settle this conflict.
"Unfortunately, the U.S. is believed to be helping Georgia restore its territorial integrity and Russia is associated with the force preventing it. This formula should be changed," Batiashvili said.
Georgia needs a new political force and new policy which is capable of settling the conflict with Russia and establishing close strategic partnership with it on the basis of real confidence, he added.
"I am not sure that the incumbent Georgian leadership can pursue this policy which can radically change our relations thus achieving the principal goal - gradual unification and territorial integrity of Georgia," Batiashvili said.
The purpose of the Forward, Georgia! movement is to change the political situation in Georgia and find serious support among the population, he concluded.
