Kremlin Cup to remind of Grand Slam competitions

MOSCOW, June 6 (RIA Novosti) - In 2005, the Kremlin Cup's main arena will be largely reminiscent of Grand Slam competitions, Kremlin Cup executive director Alexander Katsnelson said at a press conference on Monday. The tournament to be held for the 16th time at the Olympiisky stadium on October 8-12, 2005, will have a total prize fund of $2,300,000.

This year the stands on all the sides (north, south, east and west) will be brought closely to the court to improve the sight for spectators seating at the stadium and for TV viewers. This will help enlarge the audience watching the games from the seats located at a closer distance to courts.

The women's games have gained the first category status and therefore will see such top level stars as Maria Sharapova, Anastasia Myskina (last year's winner), Yelena Dementyeva, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Vera Zvonareva, Yelena Bovina (all from Russia), Amelie Mauresmo (France), Jennifer Capriati and Venus Williams (U.S.).
