MOSCOW, June 6 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori to discuss Tokyo's interest in the Eastern pipeline.

"I will meet with Mr. Mori soon. I would like to discuss with him pipeline problems," Putin said.

"If the Japanese are interested [in the Eastern pipeline construction], they should give more details," he added.

Putin asked Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about the plans of Russian-Japanese economic cooperation.

"They are interested in cooperation in the energy sphere and we are ready for this on mutually beneficial conditions," Lavrov said.

"We informed them about the plans of the Russian government which Japan may be interested in, particularly, the plans of the Eastern pipeline construction," he added.

According to him, the pipeline will expand Russian-Japanese energy cooperation. "They are interested in it," the minister said.

President Putin told Economic Development and Trade Minister German Gref to specify this interest.

"Khristenko [industry and energy minister] should intensify the work linked with this interest. We should understand what their interest is expressed in," Putin said.

"We clarified most aspects with Chinese partners but not all aspects were settled. If the Japanese are interested they should give more details," he said.
