Russia's defense minister participates in the work of the 36th World Congress on Military Medicine in St. Petersburg

MOSCOW, June 5 (RIA Novosti) -- Russia's Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov flew to St. Petersburg to participate in the work of the 36th World Congress on Military Medicine.

The Russian defense ministry's press service told RIA Novosti the official opening ceremony will be held on June 6, but all participants arrive in St. Petersburg the day before.

According to the press service official, aside from participating in the work of the congress, Ivanov plans to meet with the President's envoy to the Northwestern federal district Ilya Klebanov and St. Petersburg's governor Valentina Matvienko.

In addition, the defense minister will visit federal state unitary enterprise Admiralteiskiye Verfi and meet with director general of the enterprise Vladimir Alexandrov. Sergei Ivanov will inspect the progress of the construction of the "St. Petersburg" project 677 diesel submarine.

He also plans to visit the Khrulyov Military Academy of the Rear and Transport, the defense ministry's press service announced.
