MOSCOW, June 5 (RIA Novosti) - A Beer Festival is currently under way at the Luzhniki Sports Arena in Moscow. The Moscow Police told RIA Novosti, "18,000 residents and guests of Moscow visited the festival on the first day, Saturday, June 4. No public disturbances or incidents were registered."

According to a police official, police officers detained 10 people on the first day of the festival for being in public under heavy influence of alcohol. After short investigation and filing reports on administrative charges, the detained citizens were released.

One of the organizers of the festival, Igor Abushevich, told RIA Novosti, "the main event of the festival is a public beer-tasting. The results of voting for best beer varieties will be announced at the closing of the festival, and the winning beer producer will receive diplomas and awards for the best beer in the stout, larger, non-alcoholic, imported and domestic categories."

According to Abushevich, aside from beer-tasting, the program of the festival includes various exhibitions, trade-shows and contests. In addition to the traditional competitions in mini-football and arm wrestling, the program will feature more exotic events like beer bottle-top throwing.

Overall, more than 2,500 people and 80 teams registered to participate in various sports events.

The 7th Grand Moscow Beer Festival will continue for nine days. The closing ceremony and the award ceremony will be held on June 12.
