MOSCOW, June 4 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted the candidature of Alexei Chernyshev to the Legislative Assembly of the Orenburg region (the Volga Federal District) for approval of his appointee as the governor of the region, the Kremlin press service said.
Chernyshev is the incumbent governor of the Orenburg region.
The Orenburg region is one of the major donor regions in the Russian Federation. Boasting vast natural resources and a powerful agro-industrial complex, it is a major supplier of grain, gas, oil, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and engineering products. The region has been successfully building up its social and economic potential and at present is one of Russia's best-developing regions. In terms of major social and economic indicators, the region is among the leaders in the Volga Federal District.
The president has submitted the candidature of Chernyshev in conformity with the relevant legislation, such as the law "On General Principles in Organization of Legislative (Representative) and Executive Bodies of State Power in Constituent Regions of the Russian Federation", "On Making Amendments to the Federal Law "On General Principles of Organization of Legislative (Representative) and Executive Bodies of State Power in Constituent Regions of the Russian Federation" and to the Federal Law "On Basic Guarantees of the Right to Vote and Take Part in Referendums Granted to Citizens of the Russian Federation".
