Council of CIS Prime Ministers opens with an unplanned private meeting

TBILISI, June 3 (RIA Novosti) - The Moldovan premier, the president of the meeting of the Council of the Prime Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) that groups republics of the former Soviet Union, opened the meeting by asking all except the premiers and other delegation heads to leave the conference hall.

"You walk around for 10-15 minutes, while the heads of government or those leading the delegations will talk here in an inner circle, then you will join us," Vasile Tarlev said addressing the delegates and journalists.

A further holdback took place during the photo session. The organizers did not know where Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko should stand. Finally she was placed in the center near Vladimir Rushailo, the Executive Secretary of the CIS.

Soon all the delegated joined the meeting.

Taking part in it are the Prime Ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and Ukraine.

Kyrgyzstan is represented by the acting Deputy Prime Minister, Uzbekistan by a deputy prime minister, Turkmenistan - by the permanent representatives at CIS bodies.

Tarlev said the CIS was prepared to form a free trade zone within the Commonwealth.

"Establishing a free trade zone has been found an objective necessity," he said.

Tarlev who will delegate his authority at the meeting made a short report on the work done within the Commonwealth over his term of office.

The meeting agenda includes eight issues overall.
