KEMEROVO, May 26 (RIA Novosti) - Five men blocked up by an underground landslide came to surface unaided. That was in the Taldinskaya Yuzhnaya mine in the Kuznetsk Coal Basin, or Kuzbas.

"The men appeared shortly past noon-12.40, Moscow time, to be precise. They feel quite fit," Novosti heard from a press service officer of the company to which the mine belongs.

The miners even refused to see a doctor after their hair's-breadth escape, and hurriedly went home, say regional administration PR.

Aman Tuleyev, Kemerovo regional governor, thanked all rescuers and recommended them for awards, said our informant.

The Taldinskaya Yuzhnaya is under construction. Soil sagged in it during development working this morning to cut off the five men at a twenty-meter depth.

Kuzbas, in West Siberia's south, is Russia's largest coal-bearing area.
