MOSCOW, May 23 (RIA Novosti) - By the blessing of Patriarch Pavle of Serbia and Patriarch Alexis of Moscow and All Russia, Serbian filmmakers are shooting a series of documentaries about Russia's chief holy places, i.e., the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius and the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Milan Rochen, ambassador of Serbia and Montenegro who headed the Serb delegation at the meeting with Patriarch Alexis II Monday, told journalists about this project.

"These films will help the fraternal Orthodox peoples to get even closer to each other, if they can be even closer," the ambassador said.

Radoslav Moskovic, a Serb filmmaker on a first visit to Russia, is planning to shoot three films by October - about the town of Sergiyev Posad, the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius, and the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. He hopes that at the end of the year the films will be shown by Central TV in Serbia.

In his words, the project is supported by the Serb and Montenegrin Businessmen's Union operating in Russia.

Radoslav Moskovic pointed out that the Serbs knew but little about the history of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior but believed that it was as important for Russians as the St. Sabbas Cathedral in Belgrade for Serbs. Incidentally, Russians also help to restore the St Sabbas Cathedral.

Some 12,000-14,000 believers will be able to attend services in the Cathedral at a time. The Cathedral's 49 bells have already been hung, and its underground part with dozens of graves has been built anew. The Cathedral will also have a concert hall. In keeping with the old Serb tradition, the Cathedral will be decorated with mosaics, not frescoes.

Sergiyev Posad is a district center in the Moscow region famous for the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius, Russia's largest monastery.

The famous Holy Trinity Monastery was founded by St. Sergius of Radonezh in 1337. In 1744, the monastery was given the honorable status of Lavra. Over many a century, the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius has been one of the most revered holy places in Russia, the largest center of spiritual education and culture.

The Cathedral of Christ the Savior is the main Orthodox church in Russia built to mark Russia's victory over Napoleon in 1812.
