MOSCOW, May 23 (RIA Novosti) - The pilot of a Su-27 that crashed in Tajikistan on May 21 saved people and buildings on the ground, the investigating expert commission reported on the site.

The accident took place during a scheduled flight of pilot Vadim Pryadchenko. "Major Vadim Pryadchenko's reaction was opportune and correct enough to prevent deaths and destruction of buildings underneath," Alexander Drobyshevsky, spokesman for the Russian Air Forces' press service, said.

The official said that several minutes after the take-off the pilot had felt control over the plane deteriorate.

"When he partly lost control of the plane, the pilot stopped his flight mission and in a bid to save the aircraft tried to turn it toward the aerodrome and land," Drobyshevsky said.

Soon he absolutely lost control of the plane, with flame shooting up from the left engine.

"The pilot did his best to turn the plane away from the settlement and, making sure that there were no people or houses ahead ejected himself successfully," the official said.

The accident took place on last Saturday morning several kilometers from the airport of Dushanbe.
