BUENOS AIRES, May 22 (RIA Novosti, Yuri Nikolayev) - The Fyodor Volkov Theater from Yaroslavl starts its performing tour in Argentina. The theater was formed in Yaroslavl in 1750 and is considered the first professional theater in Russia.

"It is the first performing tour of a Russian theater in Argentina for the last quarter of a century. Apparently, it is an important event in the cultural life of Argentina and its capital," director of the theater from Yaroslavl Valery Sergeyev told RIA Novosti.

"Despite such a long break, long-time theatrical fans in Argentina still remember the performances of the Bolshoi Drama Theater from St. Petersburg (then Leningrad) when the theatrical company was led by famous Russian director Georgy Tovstonogov," Sergeyev added.

"The first performance of the theater from Yaroslavl took place on the stage of the Roma Theater. The guests from Russia performed "V lesu prifrontovom" (in a frontline forest) concert-play directed by Valery Kirillov. The performance was dedicated to the 60th Anniversary of the end of WWII. Many Russian immigrants from the Federation of Compatriots' Clubs were among the audience. There are seven Russian clubs in Buenos Aires and its suburbs. They all bear names of Russian classical writers - Alexander Pushkin, Maxim Gorky, Alexander Ostrovsky, Vladimir Mayakovsky.

Residents of Buenos Aires will also be able to watch the performance of Ostrovsky's "Na vsyakogo mudretsa dovolno prostoty" (Every wise man has enough naivety) and Chekhov's musical comedies.

Aside from Buenos Aires, the theater will stage performances in Obera and Posadas near the border with Brazil (1,100 kilometers from the capital).

During the Argentinean tour, director of the Yaroslavl Theater Valery Sergeyev gave several master classes for the students of the Dramatic Arts School in Buenos Aires.

The Argentinean Culture Ministry and the Russian Agency for Culture and Cinematography organized the performing tour of the Fyodor Volkov Theater.

It is not a commercial tour. The Russian side pays for airfare, and the Argentinean side pays for expenses during the stay of the troupe in the country.

The tour will last till June 3.
