MOSCOW
* Indian President Abdul Kalam will arrive in Moscow on a state visit.
* The Luzhniki sports center currently hosting the Russian Running Festival will see the Moscow Marathon, the Russian Marathon Race Championship and the Relay Race of Friendship dedicated to the 60th anniversary of VE Day. The program includes 42-km, 10-km, 5-km, and 2,012-m races for all comers (10.00).
MAGADAN REGION
* Elections to the regional parliament (Duma) and local self-government bodies will be held in the Magadan region. The proportional election system will be used in the region for the first time - 13 out of 25 parliamentarians will be elected according to party lists and 12 - in single-mandate districts.
CHELYABINSK
* The Golden Knight 14th international film festival will open in Chelyabinsk. It is traditionally held during the Days of the Slavonic Alphabet and Culture (May 22-31). About 300 filmmakers from 31 countries will participate in the festival. They are to present over 200 movies.
