TASHKENT, May 20 (RIA Novosti) - The situation in Andizhan (Uzbekistan) which recently saw public unrests remains stable, head of the Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) committee for CIS and compatriots affairs Andrei Kokoshin told RIA Novosti after the meeting with Uzbek President Islam Karimov. Kokoshin arrived in Tashkent from Osh (Kyrgyzstan) on a one-day routine visit.

"The situation is stable and life is normal," Kokoshin said commenting on his short visit to Andizhan on the way to Tashkent.

According to the Russian parliamentarian, the investigation of the Andizhan turmoil tracked down its extremist Islamic roots.

However, it is Uzbekistan's domestic affair with no foreign interference, he emphasized.

Andrei Kokoshin and Islam Karimov discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, including security and economic problems.
