MOSCOW, May 19 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and France have called on the OSCE member-states to sign an international convention against nuclear terrorism, the Russian Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

Russia and France proposed adopting a statement of foreign ministers of the OSCE member-states containing "political obligations of all the 55 members of this Organization, to sign the new counter-terrorism convention on September 14, 2005 in New York and to provide its soonest ratification."

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, OSCE member-states are currently considering the draft ministerial statement worked out by the Russian and French delegations at the OSCE.

The international convention against nuclear terrorism was drafted on Russia's initiative and approved by the UN General Assembly on April 13, 2005. The convention will come into force if it is ratified by 22 countries.
