"The settlement of the border issue will be beneficial both to Russia and Estonia. It is very difficult to have territorial uncertainties and be a member of the European Union today," the senator said on Wednesday.
According to him, mutually beneficial concessions which Moscow and Tallinn made today will consolidate the state border and promote geopolitical stability in the region.
Russia boasts a positive border experience of interaction with the EU in the sphere of Russian-Finnish relations taking into account economic interests of border regions and their residents, Margelov stressed.
This experience can be used in Russian-Estonian relations, he added.
We need simplification of visa regulations and border-crossing procedures and transfer to a visa-free regime, the senator said.
Mikhail Margelov said it was highly important for him because he represents the Pskov region bordering on Estonia.
