MARIINSKY STAR ANNA NETREBKO ON HER LIFE AND CAREER

MOSCOW, May 16 (RIA Novosti) - Star of the Mariinsky Theater Anna Netrebko (soprano) often performs in Vienna, London and New York. She took part in the recent Easter festival in Moscow and spoke about her future plans with Noviye Izvestia, a daily.

The singer has a tight working schedule for the next three years. She is coming to Austria soon to sing Violetta's part in La Traviata. In October-November Netrebko will tour Germany. After that, she will sing in Rigoletto in the Metropolitan Opera (New York). She will come to Russia for two-three days.

"I chose this life myself. I achieved all I wanted," Anna said.

According to her, seven years ago she could not imagine such an amazing career growth. Anna realized the scale of her popularity after her solo concerts in Germany and Austria which gathered some 8,000 people each. People gave her standing ovations. Many Austrians and Germans who meet Anna in the streets ask her for a signature.

Formerly Anna Netrebko was invited to sing in Russian operas abroad, for instance, the parts of Tatiana in Eugene Onegin and Lisa in The Queen of Spades. Today she sings in operas composed by Mozart, Bellini, Verdi, etc. In 2006, Anna will sign the part of Manon in Jules Massenet's eponymous opera. She dreams of singing in Alban Berg's Lulu.

"This is a difficult opera with much German text, however, Lulu's image is very interesting and I would like to embody it," the singer said.

Netrebko's favorite cities are London, New York and San Francisco which saw her foreign debut. The star has many friends overseas.

Anna Netrebko was born in Krasnodar. She received her vocal training in the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in Leningrad.

She is a laureate of the Mikhail Glinka all-Russia vocal contest (1st prize, Moscow, 1993), the Casta Diva award (1998) and the Golden Light supreme theater award of St. Petersburg (1999).
