DIAGHILEV SEASONS IN PERM

MOSCOW, May 13 (RIA Novosti) - The second international festival Diaghilev Seasons: Perm - St. Petersburg - Paris will be held in Perm under the UNESCO patronage from May 15 to 23, reports the web site of the Tchaikovsky Perm Academic Opera and Ballet Theater (theatre.perm.ru).

Diaghilev festivals dedicated to the famous Russian ballet impresario of the 20th century Sergei Diaghilev have been held in Perm since 1987. Diaghilev spent his childhood in Perm. This town has a unique house-museum of the impresario. Festivals include traditional Diaghilev readings, exhibitions in the Perm art gallery, ballet and opera performances.

The international musical-theatrical forum was established in Perm in 2003. It is held once in two years and involves Russian and foreign actors and directors.

Performances of the outstanding choreographers of the 20th century who contributed to the glory of Sergei Diaghilev's Russian Ballet will be shown in Perm this year. The festival's program also includes the best opera and ballet performances of the Perm Theater, particularly, Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and Stravinsky's The Nightingale.

A modern dance ensemble from Japan will tour Perm during the festival. Perm will also see exhibitions of theater sketches by Alexander Benois and Lev Bakst and concerts of organ, chamber, symphony and jazz music involving Russian and foreign musicians.

The festival's program also include the Diaghilev Readings international symposium gathering experts in music, choreography, painting and scenography and the first Russian contest for the best producer's project in the sphere of art and culture.

The festival will close with The Soul of Dance gala concert of artists of the Mariinsky Theater, the Bolshoi Theater and Paris National Opera.
