"The Foreign Ministry and other federal offices are working for it. I shall not reveal whatever details lest publicity hampers the job," he remarked.
Once Russia's Nuclear Power Industry Minister, Adamov is suspected of embezzlement. A parliamentarian of the Liberal Democratic group, led by Vladimir Zhirinovsky, asked the Foreign Minister whether US schemes to get an access to Russian-based nuclear projects were underlying the controversy.
"The question has been asked by now, and a reply has come. All Russian-US nuclear safety understandings base on parity," Lavrov said.
Testifying to the parity approach valid was a recent summit in Bratislava, Slovakia, during which Russia and the USA agreed to join efforts on the nuclear safety and security cause, and together to track down whatever trespasses that may be made at nuclear projects in third countries, he added.
"Whatever concessions are ruled out here, and no talks are underway for access to our nuclear projects," stressed the Foreign Minister.
Yevgeny Adamov, Nuclear Power Industry Minister in 1998-2001, was detained in Bern, May 2. Switzerland addressed the USA the same day for a formal extradition application. Related procedures take forty to sixty days, as the law has it.
If the suspect's extradition is determined, his lawyers will have thirty days to appeal to Switzerland's federal court. A final verdict will be up to it.
The US authorities have charged Adamov and his business partner Mark Kaushansky, US national of Soviet extraction, with embezzling nine million dollars the US Administration had granted Russia to enhance nuclear safety.
According to the US legislation, Adamov may be imprisoned for up to sixty years and fined $1.75 million. He is firmly pleading innocence.
Meanwhile, the case is spreading to the entire Adamov household. The former minister's daughter has had her bank accounts arrested. As the Swiss prosecution assumes, her father was using the accounts for money laundering.
