"We are prepared to sign the border treaties with Estonia and Latvia, but hope they will not contain essentially absurd territorial claims," Putin said at a news conference following the summit.
"It is absurd when one country advances territorial claims in Europe in the 21st century to another country and simultaneously wants to sign a border treaty with it," the president said when asked about Russia's relations with the Baltic states.
Putin said such claims did not correspond to the spirit of European development and to Russia-EU cooperation.
"We can wait for our colleagues to get ripe for real work and be ready to sign the documents," said Putin.
At the same time, Putin said he had instructed the Foreign Ministry to sign the border treaty with Estonia.
"We do not have problems [on the matter] with Estonia, thank God. When I worked in Leningrad (Petersburg) I took part in talks with Estonian officials on this issue. The Estonian partners, to their credit, took a pragmatic approach to their national interests, and now we have come close to signing a border treaty," said Putin.
