MUSCOVITES TREATED TO WWII-STYLE BREAD

MOSCOW, May 9 (RIA Novosti) - Bread baked on World War II recipes is distributed free in two Moscow parks all day long-Victory Park round the War Memorial on Poklonnaya Hill, and the Gorky Park. Four bakeries have made a huge batch. Of solid, clayey dough, with a pungent taste, this bread does not get stale for up to five days. Not only its taste and texture differ from today's standards-we never have seen such huge loaves, each of a kilo and 400 grams.

Field kitchens have been pitched up on outdoor fete sites to offer frontline-style porridge, also free.

Souvenir headgear is on sale in every park. Young people especially like military-style caps inscribed, "Victory Day", Gorky Park vendors said to a Novosti reporter.

Tiny flags-Russian tricolors and red with V-E symbols-also sell like hot cakes in Moscow streets.
