MOSCOW, May 9 (RIA Novosti, Alevtina Schepetina) Festive artillery salute thundering over Moscow on May 9 in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory, will establish a record in terms of the number of salvoes and the variety of fireworks, announced commander of the separate salute division of the Moscow Military District Lieutenant Colonel Vyatcheslav Paradnikov in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to tradition, 30 artillery and 30 fireworks salvoes will be fired in Moscow in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Great Victory, Paradnikov told RIA Novosti. 4,500 artillery and fireworks rounds will be fired from 18 ZIS-3 wartime guns and more than 70 fireworks multiple-launch systems.

Many of those guns were used in fierce battles. Some carry marks and holes on their front shields left by bullets and fragments of Nazi bombs.

In Moscow, the guns and multiple-launch systems will fire salute rounds from 31 sites.

According to Paradnikov, the most beautiful salute salvos are Zarnitsa and Shimmering Stars.

A Zarnitsa round opens up at a height of 200 meters in a shape of a flower consisting of hundreds of small lights, which descend slowly and change colors from green to red and yellow on the way down.

A Shimmering Stars round explodes in the sky and forms a cloud of pyrotechnic elements, which descend slowly in a form of a starry rain, blinking and shimmering along the way.

The fireworks differ not only by their colors and shapes, but also by the height of opening. There will be 8-10 types of fireworks rounds opening up at the height of 100-200 meters, 12-13 types - at the height of 200-300 meters, and about 10 types - at the height of 300 meters and above.

Every salvo will turn into a unique design in the sky. All designs are specifically developed by masters of fireworks art.

This year, the salute salvoes fired from the major salute grounds - the Vorobyevy Gory and the Victory Park - will be coordinated for the first time by a computer program.

"The art of creation of salute designs with harmonious combination of colors is acquired over years of experience. It is not easy to put together a salute program, but a computer can immediately display the possible result and show the drawbacks of planned combinations," Paradnikov said.

He added that the experts from the salute division had been with the computer-simulated salute.
