ISS CREW HAS A DAY OFF ON VICTORY DAY

MOSCOW, May 9 (RIA Novosti) May 9 is a day off for the crew of the International Space Station (ISS).

"Sergei Krikalev and John Phillips will have a day off. They will have the opportunity to talk with their relatives on the phone, but, unlike many people on Earth, the crew will not be able to celebrate the holiday with alcoholic drinks - "the prohibition" is strictly imposed on board the space station," a Russian Space Mission Control official told RIA Novosti.

Flight engineer of the 10th ISS mission Salizhan Sharipov, who returned from the orbit at the end of April, believes, though, that cosmonauts should be allowed to have 50 grams of wine or cognac every day in order to make the work on board the ISS comfortable.

"It is only for the sake of better performance, to alleviate the stress," he stated at the first post-flight press conference.

According to the Space Mission Control official, Sergei Krikalev and John Phillips will also watch Soviet movies about war during the Victory Day.

"The ISS has a splendid selection of Soviet movies, which is expanded every time the Russian cosmonauts visit the station. The orbital video library has the best Soviet movies about the Great Patriotic War, which are popular not only among the Russian cosmonauts, but also among many US astronauts," he said.
