MOSCOW, May 8 (RIA Novosti) - Vladimir Putin has urged nations to use the lessons of the war against Nazism in the fight against contemporary threats.

"We must not forget either about the horrors of the war or the results of that war or about what united us during that war in order to better use all this knowledge today and unite our efforts in the fight against contemporary threats and act more effectively in the future," the Russian President said in an interview with the CBS TV company.

"The war against Nazism, the war against absolute evil, and Nazism was undoubtedly absolute evil, united the overwhelming majority of the countries and peoples of the world. This was a very good experience of cooperation," Putin told the CBS.

In a broadcast of France-3 TV channel, the Russian president stressed that "a split in Europe and in the world and the division of humankind into blocs, which put humankind several times on the brink of extermination, are absolutely inadmissible."

"Time has come for the decisive unification of all nations in the struggle against new challenges - terrorism and ideological doctrines based on racism and xenophobia," says an article by President Putin published in France's Le Figaro newspaper.

"These threats pose the main danger to the rights and freedoms of the individual and the sustainable development of nations and peoples, the danger for those humanistic values and principles, which humankind, after defeating Nazism, laid as the basis for the UN Charter and the Human Rights Declaration," he added. It is possible to overcome these threats only on the basis of mutual trust, solidarity and cooperation of the entire international community."
