GUDERMES, May 6 (RIA Novosti) - Much has been done in the Chechen Republic of late to prevent major terrorist acts which could have taken away many lives; a number of active participants in illegal armed formations have been arrested, said Alu Alkhanov, Chechnya's president, at a commemoration ceremony for the republic's assassinated president Akhmad Kadyrov.
Unprecedented security measures have been taken in the republic for the period of the VE Day 60th anniversary celebrations, Alu Alkhanov stressed.
"I have no doubt that the organizers of and participants in the terrorist act against the Chechen Republic's president Akhmad Kadyrov will be punished, if they have not yet been punished," the president added. In his words, commemoration ceremonies for Akhmad Kadyrov are being held in all districts of the Republic since yesterday and they will be continued after May 9.
Akhmad Kadyrov was killed in a bomb blast on the stadium in Grozny on May 9, 2004.
