Photographs representing WWII battle scenes and portraits of Soviet officers and men who took part in action were shown to the sounds of wartime songs. Visitors to the exhibition were invited to read commentaries by specialists and political analysts from RIA Novosti, exploring WWII's implications for the modern-day world.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Russian Ambassador Alexander Maryasov emphasized that in celebrating the 60th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in WWII, Russia was not trying to set itself apart from other members of the anti-Hitlerian coalition. Last year, the Allies all came together to celebrate 60 years since the opening of the Second Front. And in a few days, leaders of the Allied nations will converge on the Russian capital, Moscow, for 60th V-E anniversary festivities, the ambassador said.
Senior officials of the Iranian Foreign Ministry and diplomatic missions visited the V-E anniversary exhibition. Hundreds of reporters from local and Western broadcast and print news media covered the event.
