VILNIUS, May 2 (RIA Novosti, Vladimir Vodo) - Lithuania is planning to toughen the entry rules for visitors from Russia and other members of the CIS.

The President of the Lithuanian Tourism Association, Kestutis Ambrozaitis, said in a RIA Novosti interview that specifically, pre-paid holiday packages would no longer be regarded as a sufficient condition for getting a Lithuanian entry visa.

The official said he was hopeful that the current rules would not be changed until the end of this year's high season.

According to officials at Lithuania's state tourism department, tour operators from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine bought as many as 200,000 package holidays last year alone.

The country's Foreign Ministry puts the planned measure down to strict EU requirements.
