MASS POLITICAL ACTIONS MARK MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS IN MOSCOW

MOSCOW, May 1 (RIA Novosti) - Mass political actions organized by trade unions and various political and public organizations, are being held in Moscow on May Day.

Representatives of the Moscow Trade Union Federation, supported by United Russia and the People's Party of Russia, are conducting a meeting and a march.

According to the chairman of the Moscow Trade Union Federation Mikhail Nagaitsev, leaders of trade unions consulted with representatives of the Patriarchal Office and "agreed that the celebration of Labor Day does not interfere with the celebration of Easter."

Representatives of the KPRF and other leftist organizations traditionally celebrate May Day with a march and a meeting near the monument to Karl Marx.

Democratic forces are also celebrating Labor Day in Moscow. Representatives of the Union of Right Forces (SPS) are planning to conduct a march and later continue the celebration of the "rightist May Day" on river boats. The SPS has rented five river boats to take its supporters on a trip along the Moskva River.

A "group of citizens," which includes Yabloko supporters, representatives of various human rights organizations and "independent trade unions," are also planning to hold a series of events on May 1.

Supporters of the Pensioners' Party, Russia's Revival Party and members of the International Eurasian Movement are holding a series of meetings.

LDPR representatives are conducting a meeting on Pushkin Square near the monument to the famous Russian poet.

The overall number of participants in mass public events is expected to exceed 60,000 people in Moscow on May 1.
