He is in Murmansk for discussing the possibility of building the plant with regional tops.
"Except the Kola sites under consideration we've got an interesting proposal from the Navy to locate the plant in the military settlement Vidyaevo", Mescherin said.
He specified that earlier Gazprom was offered sites near the settlements Liinahamari and Tebirek near the Norwegian border.
According to the Gazprom representative, the Navy proposal has a range of attractive aspects. "Vidyaevo has an excellent harbor, ramified infrastructure, skilled personnel", Mescherin said.
The earlier proposals made to the Murmansk administration are also in consideration, he added.
"We would like to take a final decision on the plant location together with the potential foreign partner or group of partners", Mescherin said. He noted that the competition for developing the Shtokman field is at most active phase.
Asked by RIA Novosti on a possible capacity of the plant, Mescherin said that, proceeding from the world experience, it can be four to five million tonnes annually per line of liquefied gas production.
"The number of lines depends on the market demand", Mescherin said, adding that there may be several lines.
He specified that, except the Kola peninsula, Gazprom is considering a building site near St.Petersburg, as well as the possibility of building a floating plant adjacent to the Shtokman field.
