MURMANSK, April 12 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Navy will receive cutting-edge type ships next year, Admiral Vladimir Kuroyedov said to the media in Murmansk, seaport in Russia's northwest, today. The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy is inspecting the Northern Fleet to sum up its winter training sessions.

"We were planning our strategies back in 1999-2000. Our basic idea was this: to preserve what we have while making type ship R&D, and start new vessel mass production to thoroughly update the navy after 2010."

Russia is lagging behind that schedule roughly by a year, "but we shall surely catch up. Certain pioneer multipurpose type ships are already available, and I think they will be launched for dock trials even this year," said the admiral.
