RUSSIA-EGYPT: LAST YEAR DOUBLES TRADE TURNOVER

Subscribe
CAIRO, April 10 (RIA Novosti, Igor Kuznetsov) - The Russian-Egyptian trade turnover doubled last year to come close to an $834 million mark, reports the Russian trade representation in Egypt.

Russian exports to Egypt increased by 105 per cent, and imports from Egypt by 51 per cent. Dominating Russian exports are petroleum products, wheat, saw-timber, paper, cardboard, and rolled iron and steel. Egypt is eager to spread cooperation to high technologies and science-intensive spheres. In particular, prospects to use aircraft engines in gas-pumping stations have come under consideration, alongside development and production of alternative energy sources, water filtering, and many other endeavors.

Of tremendous importance for Russian exports to Egypt is a bilateral understanding for Egypt to recognize the Russian economy's market status. It was announced as Mikhail Fradkov, Russia's Prime Minister, was visiting Cairo last year, pointed out our informants.
