MADRID, April 8 (RIA Novosti's Yuri Kryuchkov) - The premiere of the play Terrorism of Vladimir and Oleg Presnyakov was a tremendous success at Madrid's Teatro de la Abadia. The performance was staged by Carlos Aladro, a laureate of the 2004 Jose Luis Alonso award which is conferred on young directors.

"Our theater stages plays by modern playwrights reflecting the sharpest problems of contemporaneity which our society is concerned about. We are lucky to have staged Terrorism by the brothers Presnyakov," Aladro told RIA Novosti commenting on the choice of the play.

According to him, this is a very interesting and complicated performance containing the remarkable Russian dramatic traditions. It combines elements of tragedy and black comedy. "The play is beaming with energy uniting people," Aladro stressed.

The play was written a year before the terrorist attack on the International Trade Center in New York. It was staged at the Chekhov Moscow Art Academic Theater a week after the Nord Ost tragedy.

"When we were writing this play we tried to comprehend the challenges of our epoch. The desire to understand the world is an attempt to overcome its chaos and catastrophes. A person can overcome circumstances if he realizes his existence and thinks about his place in the world," said Vladimir Presnyakov.

"We wanted to show that explosions on the streets are explosions of people's minds. We are afraid of consequences of external explosions but they are nothing but the reflection of internal explosions," Oleg Presnyakov added.

The play Terrorism is shown in Russian, British, Portuguese and other theaters. In May it will premiere in the New Group Theater in New York.
