MOSCOW, April 5 (RIA Novosti's Sergei Gorbunov) - Today criminal elements control whole regions in Kyrgyzstan, Askar Akayev said, commenting on the murder of Oran Aliyev, head of the Interior Ministry's Southern Regional Directorate for Malfeasance Investigation, in Osh.

Akayev praised the deceased officer's professional skill. "He was a very professional, good officer. I remember his name. May he rest in peace," Akayev told RIA Novosti.

According to Akayev, it is difficult for him to make judgements on the specific reasons for the crime. "It is difficult for me to judge, but the fact that criminal elements control whole regions in Kyrgyzstan today is no secret, unfortunately. And here we face the consequences," Akayev said.

As the Kyrgyz Interior Ministry's press-service told RIA Novosti Tuesday, the officer and his driver were shot when they were entering Aliyev's house.

The officer - he was shot four times in the head - died instantly; the driver was taken to a hospital in critical condition - he got three bullet wounds.

An investigation team consisting of the Interior Ministry's best operatives was created. According to the preliminary information gathered by the police, the attempt on Aliyev's life was probably related to his professional activities.
