NAPOLEON AND ALEXANDER EXHIBITION OPENS IN SARATOV

MOSCOW, April 5 (RIA Novosti) - The exhibition Napoleon and Alexander will be running in the Radishchev state art museum in Saratov from April 8 to July 3. It features 153 showpieces from the collection of the State History Museum (Moscow), reports the Web site www.museum.ru.

The exhibition is dedicated to the confrontation of the two great emperors of the early 19th century, Napoleon I and Alexander I, and the Russian victory in the 1812 Patriotic War.

The exhibition will present three paintings, the portrait of Alexander I in full dress on horseback, and two battle paintings on the history of Russian and French military campaigns.

Twenty-two etchings by European artists show not only Bonaparte's major battles from the victorious European campaign to the flight from Moscow but also key historical events associated with the two great emperors.

Moreover, the exhibition features 23 sculptures by Russian and European artists of the late 18th - early 19th centuries and weapons of the Russian and French armies. Among them is a Russian St. George's saber which was awarded for courage, a French saber, a French officer's overcoat found on the Borodino field, works by Zlatoust and Versailles gunsmiths, cannon-balls and cannon models made in the beginning of the 19th century.

Russian medals for the 1812 Patriotic War and seizure of Paris in 1914, Russian, French, Italian and Spanish coins of the 19th century will be also presented at the exhibition.

It is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the Radishchev state art museum.
