RETURN OF INVESTORS TO KYRGYZSTAN MAY TAKE YEARS - AKAEV

MOSCOW, April 5 (RIA Novosti's Sergei Gorbunov) - Years may pass before investors return to Kyrgyzstan, Askar Akaev believes.

"As a result of ransacks and robberies, middle-scale business concentrated in Bishkek has been virtually ruined. Foreign investors have gone", Akaev told RIA Novosti in the interview.

"The required volume of direct and foreign investments may be hard to attract for many years. They were the two motive forces for the economy of Kyrgyzstan", Akaev noted.

In his opinion, the new authorities have to work very hard to attract investors and revive small- and medium-scale business.

"I see it as one of the main questions of development", he said.

He also thinks that the democratic way of development should continue in Kyrgyzstan.

"If our country does not continue on the democratic road of development, it will certainly face big problems", Akaev is sure.
