13 RUSSIAN COMPANIES AMONG WORLD LEADING CORPORATIONS

NEW YORK, April 2 (RIA Novosti) - The Forbes Magazine has included 13 Russian companies into the annually updated list of 2,000 world leading corporations in 2005.

The place on the list was defined not only by the market capitalization sum but by volumes of trade and revenues, as well as the size of the assets.

In line with these criteria, Citigroup holds first place. It is followed by another three US companies General Electric, insurance corporation American International Group and the Bank of America.

Fifth place belongs to British banking corporation HSBC. ExxonMobil, Royal Dutch/Shell and British Petroleum are in 6th, 7th and 8th places correspondingly. Dutch finance group ING is in ninth place, and Japanese carmaker Toyota is in 10th place.

Among Russian companies on the list, Gazprom holds 67th place, Lukoil is in 161st, RAO UES of Russia - in 252nd, Surgutneftegaz - in 360th, Sberbank - in 409th, Sibneft - in 452nd, Norilsk Nickel - in 504th, Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) - in 759th, Tatneft - in 938th, Severstal - in 1,091st, Vimpelcom - in 1468th, AvtoVAZ - in 1836th, steel-casting group Mechel - in 1985th place.

Judging by the location of the headquarters of corporations on the Forbes Global 2000 list, 821 of them are based in North America, 544 in the Asia-Pacific region, 527 - in West Europe, 32 in South Asia, 30 in East Europe, 26 in South America, 20 in Africa and 9 in the Middle East.
