LUXEMBOURG, April 1 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is ready to cooperate with the European Union in the settlement of conflicts on the post-Soviet space, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"Russia, which is involved in the settlement of conflicts in Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transdniestria, spoke about its efforts at the previous session. We reaffirmed our readiness to cooperate with the EU on these issues," he noted adding that Russia already cooperated with EU representatives on the North Caucasus.

According to Lavrov, at the previous session EU representatives confirmed their interest in promoting conflict settlement in these self-proclaimed republics.

In his opinion, conflicts should be settled on the basis of the existing mechanisms but Russia will welcome new ideas to achieve agreements between the conflicting sides.

Russia comes out for the federative and demilitarized status of Moldova, Sergei Lavrov stressed. In his words, EU representatives promised to consider their position on this conflict.
