"We are stronger together, particularly, in the economic sphere and on the international scene. Unity guarantees the worthy future of this and future generations," the Belarussian embassy in Moscow quoted Lukashenko as saying.
According to the head of state, "unity is an objective and timeless demand."
"Its importance is growing ahead of the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory. Only joint efforts helped our fathers and grandfathers defeat Nazism," he stressed.
Lukashenko believes that Russia and Belarus should stay together today.
The two countries have to do a lot to improve the union in the interests of each citizen, he noted.
In his words, the union of the two countries has proved its economic efficiency by the fact that Russia and Belarus have boasted the largest bilateral trade turnover for many years.
"We have settled important issues, which guarantee equal social rights of Russian and Belarussian citizens. But we have to do a lot to improve the union in the interests of each citizen," Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.
"Today we mark the Day of Russian-Belarussian Unity. The signing of the agreement on the union state on April 2, 1996 proved that the two nations' striving for unity is stronger than any destructive processes," the Belarussian leader concluded.
