KYRGYZSTAN: VICTORIOUS OPPOSITION CLOSE-KNIT, SAYS ACTING PRESIDENT

BISHKEK, March 30 (RIA Novosti) - Differences are rending the victorious Kyrgyz opposition, say rumors. Kurmanbek Bakiev, Prime Minister and acting President, resolutely disproved them in an address to the national television.

"There are no differences whatsoever. The problem-laden opinions that come up in particular political parties immediately get under routine debates to be quickly cancelled. Whatever may be said on that score is a pack of totally ungrounded hoaxes," he said with emphasis.

Mr. Bakiev does not think overthrown President Askar Akayev ought to come back to Kyrgyzstan just now. "I advise him not to do that-it isn't expedient at this time. Unrest may sweep this country if he does."

As for Mr. Akayev's tentative negotiations with parliament, the acting President had this to say: "It's up to parliament to settle such matters as that. I am not the one to force my opinions on it. If new-convocation parliamentarians are eager to meet Askar Akayev, they are free to do so, and discuss whatever issues that may arise."

"The situation in Bishkek and throughout the country is coming back to normal. I am saying this in full responsibility," he went on, emphatically.

"I as Prime Minister, the new Cabinet and all the other ruling bodies are determined to do everything possible to prevent the events re-enacted."

Mr. Bakiev sounded reassuring as he addressed the ethnic Russian community: "Ethnic Russians have no reason to worry. All conflicts are over and done with."

"Don't divide the population into the Russian and the Kyrgyz as you analyze the recent developments. There are roughly eighty ethnic entities in this country, and all were equally affected," he remarked.

There are forces in Kyrgyzstan interested in riots going on, warned Mr. Bakiev. "They are preventing the emergent government and myself from normal work."

He blamed the riots of night March 24 into the small hours March 25 on those forces. "I'll never believe the people who came to peacefully demonstrate were doing all that. I am determined to make reforms in the law-enforcement agencies. The changes will bring fruit, and all rioters will be punished in compliance with the law."

Mr. Bakiev pledged to do everything in his power for closer contacts with Russia.

"The bilateral trade turnover is increasing with every passing year. I hope our economic partnership with Russia will improve," he stressed.
