DUSHANBE, March 29 (RIA Novosti) - Tajikistan's President Emomali Rakhmonov and deputy chairman of the finance commission of the French Senate Aymeri de Montesquiou, who arrived in Tajikistan on a routine visit yesterday, discussed a wide range of Tajik-French bilateral issues in Dushanbe on Tuesday.

Rakhmonov regards France as Tajikistan's key European partner, press secretary of the Tajik president Abdufattokh Sharipov told journalists.

"We are ready for cooperation in different spheres," the head of state stressed.

"France will take all effort to promote Tajikistan's economic recovery," Aymeri de Montesquiou told journalists after the meeting with Rakhmonov. According to him, France should play an important role and help Tajikistan fight against illegal drug trafficking. "I am optimistic about the development of our relations," he noted.

French citizens are always welcome on Tajik territory, Aymeri de Montesquiou said adding that Tajikistan was playing an important role in the regional stability and settlement in Afghanistan. In his words, Tajikistan boasts a great hydroelectric potential, which contributes to the country's profits and lets Tajikistan export electric energy to Afghanistan, which is highly important for the latter.

Aymeri de Montesquiou also met with Tajikistan's Foreign Minister Talbak Nazarov and Economy and Trade Minister Khakim Soliyev.
