MOSCOW, March 26 (RIA Novosti) - The main objective of the Russian Government's mid-term program for 2006-2008 is to ensure a faster growth rate of the national economy as well as further development of the country's production sector, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov said on Saturday in an interview broadcasted live by the Mayak radio station.

In the next three years, we must not only step up the production sector's growth rate but also substantially decrease its dependence on external factors.

In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister pointed out, it is necessary to focus on faster development of the high-tech industries, targeting not only the domestic but also the foreign market.

Zhukov pointed out that unlike the previous mid-term program, the current one pays much more attention to "growth of the human capital".

"In today's postindustrial society, a country's competitive strength depends, to a large measure, on the level of its population's education," Zhukov said.

The nation's health is the program's other top priority. "We need a breakthrough in this area because the current state of the country's healthcare system is unsatisfactory," the Deputy Prime Minister added.

The program also pronounces anti-poverty measures as one of its chief objectives. The Government's anti-poverty policy will pursue the aim of minimizing the number of people living below the subsistence level, Zhukov pointed out.
