RUSSIA'S FOREIGN TRADE UP

MOSCOW, March 24 (RIA Novosti) - In February Russia's foreign trade turnover stood at 23.6 billion dollars, the Russian Economic Development and Trade Ministry has said on Thursday.

In its estimates, the February commodity export was 15.8 billion dollars' and import 7.8 billion dollars' worth. Thus, the foreign-trade favourable balance was 8 billion dollars.

On results of the 2005 two months, Russia's foreign trade turnover increased to 45.5 billion dollars. Of that, the export of goods from the Russian Federation was 31 billion dollars and import to it 14.5 billion dollars. The two months' favourable balance was 16.5 billion dollars.

The export of goods in January-February was, according to the Economic Development Ministry, 31 billion dollars, or 33 percent more than in 2004 January-February, including to foreign countries 27.1 billion dollars (a 37.6-percent increase) and to countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States 3.9 billion dollars (a 5.4-percent increase).

The import of goods in 2005 January-February was, according to the ministry, 14.5 billion dollars, increasing in comparison with the corresponding period in 2004 by 21.8 percent, including with foreign countries 11.8 billion dollars (a 22.9 percent increase) and with the CIS countries 2.7 billion dollars (a 12.5 percent increase).

In January-February Russia's foreign trade turnover with the CIS countries increased, according to the ministry, by 8.2 percent from the same period last year.

The CIS share in Russia's foreign trade turnover subsided from 17.2 percent in 2004 January-February to 14.8 percent.

Russia's basic partners in trade fixing the state of trade relations with the CIS countries remained Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan. In the total volume of Russia's foreign trade turnover in January 2005, Ukraine was the fourth (5.8 percent), Belarus sixth (4.6 percent), Kazakhstan eleventh (3.2 percent).

In January-February Russia 's export to the CIS countries was 3.9 billion dollars, increasing by 5.4 percent in comparison with the corresponding period last year. At that, their share in the total volume of Russia's export decreased from 15.7 percent in 2004 January-February to 12.8 percent.

In January-February Russia's import from the CIS countries was 2.7 billion dollars, increasing by 12.5 percent from the same period in 2004. However, the share of the CIS countries in the total volume of Russia's import subsided from 20 to 19 percent.
