KYRGYZSTAN: OPPOSITION APPOINTS NEW INTERIOR TOP

BISHKEK, March 24 (RIA Novosti) - The Kyrgyz opposition's Coordination Council of Popular Unity has appointed a new Interior Ministry top, Kurmanbek Bakiev, council head, announced on the national television.

The entire ministerial personnel have come under ex-parliamentarian Alymbai Sultanov and Abdylda Suranchiev, previous Deputy Interior Minister.

Marauding started in Bishkek, Kyrgyz capital, as soon as dusk fell. Several supermarkets have been ransacked, the posh Beta Stories among them, alongside jewel shops in the city heart. The culprits have not been tracked down, a police officer said to Novosti in a telephone interview.
