U.S. COURT TURNS DOWN YUKOS REQUEST

WASHINGTON, March 19 (RIA Novosti's Arkady Orlov) - Russia's Yukos oil company will apparently issue a statement on its subsequent actions after the Houston federal court's decision early next week, the company's spokesperson in the United States noted.

On March 18 federal judge Nancy Atlas refused to uphold a YUKOS request on protecting its assets pending the request's examination. According to Judge Atlas, Yukos representatives did not convince her that such a request was well-grounded.

At the same time, Judge Atlas agreed with the lower bankruptcy court's decision to the effect that U.S. jurisdiction did not apply to the Yukos case.

The court is seriously worried as to whether this case should be duly examined by a court in the south Texas district and on U.S. territory in general, Judge Atlas noted.

This decision is based on the interpretation of such an important legal aspect as the non-interference of one national court in the actions of another country's authorities, Judge Atlas stressed.

On March 4 Yukos filed an urgent request on protecting its assets in connection with an appeal as regards a lower bankruptcy court's decision (that was announced some time before). The Yukos case cannot be examined on U.S. territory, that court ruled.

Previously, Judge Letitia Clark of the federal bankruptcy court agreed with the Deutsche Bank's arguments, upholding its statement to the effect that Russia's Yukos company was not covered by U.S. jurisdiction.
