YUKOS DENIED PROTECTION BY TEXAS COURT

WASHINGTON, March 18 (RIA Novosti, Arkady Orlov) - U.S. District Judge Nancy Atlas has dismissed the appeal lodged March 4 by the Russian oil company Yukos, the CBS TV company reports.

Stripped of its main production unit in December, Yukos wanted Judge Atlas to keep its remaining assets while it appealed the U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Letitia Clark's earlier dismissal of its bankruptcy case for lack of jurisdiction.

The request for the corporate assets' protection from expropriation by the Russian government is Yukos' last-ditch attempt to remain afloat, the company said in a court filing. If such protection is denied, "Yukos may well find itself completely destroyed before this appeal can be completed."

Lawyers of Germany's Deutsche Bank persuaded Clark to dismiss the Yukos bankruptcy, arguing that continued litigation could adversely affect the bank's business interests.
