BERLIN, March 18 (RIA Novosti, Taras Lariokhin) - The German province Brandenburg intends to widely celebrate the 60th anniversary of Europe's liberation from Nazism, Brandenburg Prime Minister Matthias Platzeck told journalists after a meeting with Russian Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov.

"The war ended in Brandenburg and a number of commemoration events will be held at the Seelow Heights and at the former concentration camps Ravensbrьck and Sachsenhausen," Platzeck said.

"The purpose of these events is to show the Red Army's role in Europe's liberation from Hitler's fascism in order to rebuff the forces trying to rewrite history," he noted. In his words, it is necessary to show that the war was unleashed by Nazi Germany. "People should know the reasons and consequences," Matthias Platzeck added.

According to Sergei Mironov, the theme of the 60th anniversary of the Victory was central on his talks with Brandenburg's Prime Minister. He thanked Platzeck for the care taken of monuments to Soviet warriors in Berlin and Potsdam.
