MOSCOW, March 13 (RIA Novosti) - The World Figure Skating Championship will be held on March 13-20 in Moscow.

The opening ceremony will take place at Luzhniki Stadium, at 19:30 (Moscow time) on Sunday.

"The ceremony has no analogues in the history of World Championships," announced Valentin Piseyev, the Head of the Russian Figure Skating Federation. He added that national world champions of the Soviet and post-Soviet era, even those who reside now in other countries will participate in the opening ceremony

This year, Russian figure skaters will be able to participate in a World Championship being hosted by their home country for the first time in 102 years. Russia hosted World Figure Skating Championships twice before - in 1896 and in 1903, both times in St. Petersburg.

According to Mr. Piseyev, the Russian National Figure Skating Team is ready to compete in Moscow.

"I do not have any information about health problems experienced by our team members. As to small injuries, leading athletes always have those," Mr. Piseyev said.

The competition program starts on March 14. On the first day men will compete in qualifying events, and pairs will present a short program.

Overall, 197 figure skaters will participate in the competition - the greatest number of all times. For instance, 180 athletes participated in the World Championship in Dortmund last year.

Forty-six athletes will compete in men's singles program, 43 athletes - in women's singles program. Thirty-one pairs will compete for the title in the dancing program, and 21 pairs will participate in skating pairs' competition.

An IOC expert evaluation committee is expected to arrive in Moscow during the competition whose purpose is to inspect Moscow's preparedness to host the 2012 Olympics.

In addition, President of the International Skating Union Ottavio Chinquanta, Honorable President of IOC Juan Antonio Samaranch, and representatives of Turin-2006 organizing committee are expected to attend the 2005 Figure Skating World Championship in Moscow.
