POPULATION OF ST. PETERSBURG CELEBRATES SHROVE-TIDE

ST. PETERSBURG, March 13 (RIA Novosti, Dina Danilova) - A shrove-tide festivities will take place on Sunday in the Central Recreation Park on the Yelagin Island in St. Petersburg.

The organizers of the festivities told RIA Novosti that mass celebrations would be held in the park. Skomorochs (jesters), people dressed in carnival costumes, and barkers conducting various competitions and giving away presents and awards will create a festive atmosphere during the celebrations.

A shrove-tide train, seating the Shrove-Tide Queen, will travel along the alleys of the park. The central alley of the park will host various attractions including such traditional entertainment events as snow lion exhibition, fight on wooden logs and an ice post.

In the Crafts Town, arts-and-crafts masters will show their work and conduct master classes for all who wish to take them.
