JDAYDET (SYRIAN-LEBANESE BORDER), March 13 (RIA Novosti, Nadim Zuaui) - Syria continues to pull back its troops from Lebanon.

According to RIA Novosti correspondent, another truck convoy carrying Syrian military personnel crossed the Syrian-Lebanese border at checkpoint Jdaydet (40 kilometers from Damascus) on Saturday night.

The convoy consisted of 34 trucks, eight buses, and three prime movers with military equipment and ammunition.

Previously, several hundred Syrian soldiers have already left Lebanon.

They received a warm welcome back home. Despite cold weather, hundreds of Syrians gathered at the checkpoint, carrying flowers and national flags. Deputies of the Syrian National Council (parliament) and cultural activists also attended the welcome ceremony at the border. The return of Syrian soldiers was accompanied by the sounds of the national anthem played by a military band.

On Saturday, Syria and the UN reached an agreement on the issue of a complete withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon. The decision was announced after the talks between Syrian President Bashar Assad and UN Secretary General's special envoy on implementation of the UN Security Council's Resolution 1559 Terje Roed-Larsen.

According to the agreement, Syrian troops will pull back from Lebanon in two stages. First, before the end of March, all Syrian troops will be re-deployed in the Bekaa Valley (east of Lebanon), while a large part of them will return to Syria. During the second stage, all remaining Syrian troops will leave Lebanon according to the provisions of Resolution 1559.

Meanwhile, the exact date of a complete withdrawal has not been announced yet.
